EPICstorycity Youth Group(5th-12th grade): Wednesday Nights during the school year from 6-8 p.m. (Supper at 6:00)
Our 5th graders will eat, join in large group worship and games, and then break out to learn about our God-given identity! Entering middle school can be a season where we are influenced in many healthy and unhealthy ways! In the midst of it all, we want to learn to view ourselves as Jesus views us: as beloved children of God!
5TH GRADE will be led by Allison Potratz.
6TH & 7TH GRADE
Along with the meal and worship, in this group, formerly known as Trinity, students walk through the major stories and themes found in the Bible! We'll be able to go deep as we take two years to cover the Scriptures! This is the Bible Curriculum for Immanuel's Confirmation program, but you do not need to be enrolled in confirmation to attend!
6TH-7TH GRADE will be led by Lisa McIlrath.
Along with the meal and worship, this class will cover Christian theology and some Lutheran theology and answer the question; "Why does this matter to me today?" We will start the year with Teen Alpha, and cover things like the 10 Commandments, the Lord's Prayer, and the Apostles' Creed. Servant events, camp experiences and conversations with parents and mentors help students grow deeper in faith together as part of the Confirmation program. This year is the capstone of Immanuel's Confirmation program, but you don't have to be in Confirmation to be part of this group!
8TH GRADE will be led by Pastor Andrew.
High Schoolers make great dreamers and leaders in the Kingdom of God! Our HS group will encourage students to shape their own experiences and to take leadership in games and worship for the middle school students. They will be mentored by a few adults, and they will be given a lot of freedom as to what they study, what service events they may want to be part of, and they will be trusted to BE THE CHURCH today - not in the distant future!
NOTES ON CONFIRMATION
Participation in EPICstorycity does not require a student to be enrolled in Confirmation. Nor does it require a student to regularly attend Immanuel! Many students and families value the Confirmation program, so it is still our intent to pass on the Gospel of Jesus through this program!
Immanuel's Confirmation program is transitioning to the 6-8th grade years. This better matches the rhythm of our schools, and it allows the HS students to participate in the HS youth group as 9th graders!
Along with participation in the Wednesday classes, Confirmation students will also do sermon notes, service work, and attend Bible Camp or Christian retreats throughout their Confirmation years. Again, any students can be part of Confirmation, but we need to know that is what is wanted! Students fulfilling the expectations of the Confirmation program will be confirmed in the spring of their 8th grade year.
